When to go to Sedona

Red rock canyons, energy vortexes and a very good sunset.

Sedona sets a desert wellness-and-hiking scene against towering red sandstone formations, an easy day trip from Phoenix but worth two or three nights on its own. It leans hard into vortex tourism, but the hiking and the light at golden hour need no embellishment.

3–4 days is the sweet spot.

Flight time

About 5h from the US East Coast, 11.5h from Europe, 18.5h from South Asia.

Good to know

  • A Red Rock Pass ($5/day) is required to park at most trailheads outside town — buy at self-pay stations or visitor centers.
  • Summer afternoons top 100°F (38°C) in West Sedona; hike at dawn and save shopping or spa time for midday heat.
  • Sedona markets itself hard on vortex energy and psychic readings — take it as flavor, not itinerary planning.
